Ellen Peterson, owner and principal designer with Simply With Nature, has a passion for gardens and the infinite beauty found in nature.  She has a desire to educate her neighbors and to share her love of nature and its ability to nourish the human soul.  Throughout her life Ellen has had many opportunities to experience nature and appreciate the pleasure that artful design can bring.

Ellen brings a combination of training, knowledge and professionalism to each project.  She began her formal landscape training studying horticulture and landscape design at the University of Nebraska at Omaha.  When a military move brought her family to the Washington, D.C. region, Ellen was able to continue her studies and complete a Master’s Degree in Landscape Design from George Washington University.  She received three graduate certificates in Plants, Landscape Design, and Sustainable Design. 
 
Ellen believes it is important to understand the total care of plants. She is a member of Virginia Nursery and Landscape Association and has been a Virginia Certified Horticulturist since 2004.  She has also been a Cooperative Extension Master Gardener in both Virginia and Nebraska since 1997.  Ellen is chairperson of the Fairfax County Master Gardener Youth Garden committee, designing gardens for elementary, middle and high schools throughout the county.  Sharing her artistry and love for design, Ellen is also a floral designer at her church in Springfield, Virginia.
